People We Admire: Emily Henderson

Chalkboard China Admires Emily Henderson

If you haven’t met the vivacious Emily Henderson, it’s about time we introduce you! The HGTV designer and blogger has a knack for styling a room based on the owner’s personality. So, we just had tell you more about her!

Emily grew up in Oregon and after a move to New York  and several odd jobs, she landed a sales associate position at Jonathan Adler. This is where she finally realized that styling is her true calling.

She has worked with some of the world’s best photographers and designers to be featured in publications, such as Martha Stewart, Elle Decor and House Beautiful! After winning HGTV’s “DesignStar,” she landed her own TV show, “Secrets From A Stylist”, where she analyzed the homeowner’s style, then “restyled” the home to match their personality using vintage and affordable items.

Currently, you can find Emily at her design firm in Los Angeles, Huffington Post, Buzzfeed or her style blog! A couple of our favorite blog posts are:

  1. TROLLING CRAIGSLIST … DALLAS/FT. WORTH – We loved looking at the cool vintage items she found in our backyard!
  2. HGTV MAGAZINE SPREAD; A LOVELY HOUSE MAKEOVER IN STUDIO CITY – Any makeover involving a chalkboard has us sold.
  3. STORAGE, SHELVING AND A NEW VIDEO – So many shelves, so many design ideas!

Emily’s design philosophy is simple- Perfection is boring. According to her, the perfect house is equivalent to the perfect person, “no one really wants to be around them and everyone secretly hates them.” Her main goal is to let the owner’s personality, no matter how silly or inappropriate, shine through in the design of their home.  She strives to create rooms that look as though a person actually lives in the space.
